(My Ichabod story is on the back burner while it's publishing agency decides whether it's too close to another agency's book or not.)
I also wrote a bit of script and drew a few story boards.
I know it's a winner, but it's a rough story to work with...
I have to do it in ways that haven't been done before. (There are numerous skull faced Voodoo-ish characters just here on DA alone.)
I want to speak from certain areas of the heart, about what it means to be human, and I have to do it with characters that are inspired by a religious mythos that many people find offensive by virtue of it's existence. (Psycho people, but still...)
I also have to make sure I do it "Right"... Meaning, that I don't insult the source material.
Fortunately I have friends and family in many, many places. Some of which are an equatorial gold mine.
Lastly... I have to decide whether I want to send a concept sketch & sample page to an editor, praying that it gets noticed.
(Less investment with greater possible reward.)
Or...
Self publish a small run of the entire book, thus, ensuring I always hold the copyright, And send that to potential publishers for mass distribution.
(Greater investment due to having to pay the artist myself for the whole book, plus the cost of the initial run, but direct insurance that my story stays mine & if it's not picked up, I can distribute through the existing publisher.)
Really I don't care if I ever make a dime with it. It's just a story I want to tell.
Either way my next step is hiring an artist for a sample page and conceptual character design.
That may have to wait until the green is flowing a little stronger.
